Former vice president Joe Biden has selected seven prominent Democrats from Central New York to serve as delegates for his 2020 presidential campaign and represent him at the Democratic National Convention in July.

Biden, a 1968 graduate of Syracuse University’s law school, filed his full slate of delegates with the New York Board of Elections this week in advance of the state’s April 28 presidential primary election.

New York is a key state in the Democratic presidential race because it has been allotted 278 delegates to the national convention in Milwaukee, the second highest total of any state. California will have 415 delegates.

The delegates will be awarded based on the number of votes presidential candidates receive in each of New York’s 27 congressional districts.

The 24th Congressional District in Central New York will be represented by seven delegates. The Biden slate includes Democrats who are serving or served in elected office, union leaders and longtime Democratic party activists.
